In 1923, President Warren Harding and his wife traveled west to honor a section of the historic Oregon Trail. During the event, local Cayuse and Umatilla leaders gifted the first lady a Pendleton shawl inspired by the iconic Chief Joseph blanket. This striking design quickly became beloved and continues to be woven today in our Northwest mills, blending tradition with timeless style.
